Construction of ‘Taking Flight’ – the installation that will house the 5,000 ceramic butterflies – is finally underway at Trentham Gardens.
Despite the wet weather this week, teams from Moss Groundworks, KMF Group and Gladman Developments have been hard at work preparing the foundations that will hold up the more than 6m high “cage” structure.
The “cage” has been kindly manufactured by Patera Engineering and takes the form of a steel dome-shaped frame made up of eight legs. Two 40ft articulated trucks will be used to bring all the parts that make up the cage to the site early next week, where teams will be ready to begin the mammoth task of erecting the structure.
The Butterflies is a true collaboration between businesses and industries all coming together to make the project take flight and raise much-needed funds for The Donna Louise Hospice for Children & Young People.Buy a Butterfly
